Here are some examples of our recent work and the results we can achieve.
Digital and online businesses
We are currently working with many businesses in these sectors who are facing major VAT challenges as a result of:
- the recent changes to the VAT treatment of digital services (so-called "VATMOSS")
- the requirement for VAT registration in other EU countries (eg as a result of distance selling rules)
- non-EU clients who are undertaking business activities in the UK and require a UK VAT registration as Non-Established Taxable Persons (NETPs).
We can provide practical assistance with these and many other cross-border VAT issues including:
- recovery of VAT incurred in other EU jurisdictions.

VAT inspection
Our client received a substantial assessment following a routine VAT visit.
We were able to challenge the assessment using HMRC's dispute resolution (ADR) process.
Result: Assessment reduced from over £500,000 to less than £20,000.
Catering company
We helped our client appeal against a decision by HMRC regarding zero-rating for cold takeaway food products. our work resulted in retrospective VAT savings for our client of over £200,000 - and an ongoing saving of c£50,000 per year.

VAT-exempt company
We worked with a VAT-exempt corporate group in the financial services/insurance sector to eliminate VAT on management and staff recharges made between the various companies in the group.
Result: ongoing annual savings in the region of £50,000 a year.
Commercial property purchase
Our client was acquiring a commercial property with tenants in place. The seller wanted to charge VAT. We were able to show that the transaction was in fact a business transfer (VAT free).
Result: significant improvement in cashflow AND an additional saving in Stamp Duty Land Tax of c£40,000.
